Talent Attractors

Investment in the best landscape-architecture talent in the U.S. brings handsome returns to cities as they compete with other municipalities for the best talent. In an economy in which people can often live and work almost anywhere, those cities that create the highest quality of life and the greatest amount of public space often win in the talent-attraction game. The following piece in the Star Tribune newspaper shows how Minneapolis has made enormous public and private investments in the parks, streets, and plazas in its downtown and how this has brought some of the top design talent to the city and leveraged the best of the local design community as well. The most effective way to attract talent to a place is to utilize talent to make a place as attractive as possible:
